The world’s most popular alternative to metal braces is Invisalign®, a system of clear aligners that straightens your teeth almost invisibly. Columbus Park Dental offers Invisalign in NYC as a cosmetic and functional treatment. Get a gorgeous, straight smile and a more functional bite! We offer Invisalign treatments to address a variety of concerns, including Invisalign for TMJ.
What Invisalign Does
An alternative to metal braces, Invisalign is a system of custom, clear, plastic aligners. Invisalign’s SmartTrack® material is specially designed and patented for orthodontics. A series of aligner trays will gently move your teeth to their ideal location and position in your mouth.
What Invisalign Can Do
A lot of patients ask: Can Invisalign fix overbite? Can Invisalign fix underbite? Yes! It can fix many bite issues. Invisalign can also simply give you a more beautiful smile, if that’s all you’re after. The following are all treatable cases that Columbus Park Dental and Invisalign can help you with:
- Anterior open bite
- Diastema (gaps between teeth)
- Crowded or crooked teeth
The fact is, many people with bite problems may not even realize their discomfort is originating as a dental issue. What many Invisalign candidates do notice, however, is symptoms like:
- Jaw pain or tension
- Teeth grinding
- Jaw clenching
- Unusual or premature wear on their teeth
Invisalign’s can-do list is always expanding. The company dedicates a great deal of resources to researching and developing ways to improve the technology and increase its treatment capacity.
How Invisalign Moves Teeth
The mechanism by which Invisalign works is simple: each aligner tray is a tiny bit closer to your “ideal” smile than your teeth currently are. So, placing that next tray onto your teeth will create physical pressure for your teeth to align. Over several series of aligner trays, we gently move your teeth to where we want them.
How Invisalign Treatment Works
You’ll begin with a consultation and an iTero scan. Columbus Park Dental’s digital intraoral scanner captures impeccable high-resolution, 3D images of your dentition. It’s so accurate that it can detect the positions of your teeth within millionths of a meter. This imaging is what we’ll use to plan your treatment and visualize your outcome.
From here, you’re off to the races! If you require any attachments or buttons, we’ll place them. These are small, tooth-colored pieces that can provide resistance for the aligners or hold [clear] rubber bands. Next, we’ll give you your first set of aligners!
Your treatment may span anywhere from a couple of months to two years, but you’ll know approximately how long before you begin. Over the course of your treatment, you’ll visit us for check-ins and to get new aligners every 6–8 weeks. You’ll pick up a few sets of trays at a time and change trays 3 or 4 times between appointments.
